  • Technology: Launching Devices, Others, Payload Development
  • Industry: Aerospace, Consulting Services
Challenge:

Gravitilab has been developing microgravity experiment platforms. In 2023 it had secured a time-limited funding to develop a payload module for its small launch vehicle. That module aimed at enabling materials testing for a wide range of industry sectors, while focusing initially on satisfying the requirements of an early adopter.
The engineering team assigned to the project was relatively junior, with capable discipline engineers (mechanical, thermal, electronics) but no experienced space project manager nor systems lead engineer. Such roles were necessary to ensure overall consistency of design and operability within the intended launch vehicle payload bay, as well as suitable management of work deliverables in such compressed timeframe.

Solution:

Ruwah consulting offered to detach a part-time senior project systems engineer, who worked mostly remotely with team members to facilitate the engineering process, coordinate the project, manage arising issues and ensure tangible achievements are reported by the end of the time-limited period.

Results:

The consultant guided a robust systems engineering development process (from requirements to detailed design and prototype testing), while mentoring junior engineers along the course of the project.
With a pragmatic and holistic approach, the product was designed to be scalable and to accommodate future customers, without compromising the current delivery timeline.
Thanks to a strong risk and supplier management, the design and prototype manufacturing were secured. The few encountered technical issues were mitigated and turned into a positive learning experience for the team rather than a showstopper.
