Challenge:

Natural disasters often destroy traditional communication infrastructure, leaving responders without the tools needed to coordinate aid effectively. Establishing connectivity in such situations is critical to saving lives and managing resources.

Overview

Kacific CommsBox is a turnkey solution designed to provide rapid, reliable communication during disaster relief operations. Combining portability with cutting-edge satellite technology, CommsBox restores communication capabilities when they matter most.

Since 2022, over 100 units have been acquired by governments and organisations across Asia Pacific, including the Government of Fiji, the Indonesian Army, and Local Government Units in the Philippines, significantly transforming national resilience against disasters.

Solution:

CommsBox features a self-installing satellite dish, preconfigured modem, solar power pack, and Wi-Fi setup – all housed in a transportable, fire-resistant container. Its compact design allows for airdrops into remote or disaster-affected areas, offering connectivity speeds of up to 50 Mbps. Key features include:

– Instant setup: No technical expertise required, enabling rapid deployment.
– Durability: Designed with military-grade ruggedness to withstand heat, cold and humidity.
– Long-term reliability: Prepaid five-year plan ensures sustained connectivity.
– Power Management: It comes with solar panels and battery pack, allowing it to function independently in locations with no power supply.
– Portability and durability: designed for airdrops and harsh environments.

Results:

CommsBox has transformed disaster response efforts across the region, ensuring reliable communication for governments, first responders, medical teams, and recovery units. Below are key examples of its impact:

– Nationwide deployment in the Philippines:
In partnership with Stellarsat Solutions, Kacific deployed 17 CommsBox units across all 17 regions of the Philippines through the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT). This initiative ensures reliable communication in emergencies, particularly in remote and hard-to-reach areas. Following Super Typhoon Pepito in November 2024, DICT deployed two CommsBox units to restore communication in affected municipalities across Catanduanes. The units enabled up to 100 users to access free WiFi, supporting disaster response and recovery efforts. – Durability: Fire-resistant and designed for harsh environments.

By empowering governments and organisations to respond effectively to crises, CommsBox ensures that lack of communication capability is never a barrier to saving lives and coordinating recovery efforts.
